THE SUMMIT | Brooklyn, USA
Five-time Signal Award-winning podcast
POSITION | Host, Co-Producer, & Editor
Soul Summit grew out of New York’s legendary underground club culture and street parties. Nineteen years ago, Tabu, Jeff Mendoza, and Sadiq Bellamy bonded over their love for Soul, House, and Disco music and launched an all-day dance session in Fort Greene Park. In August, producer Shirine Saad joined the revelers to uncover how Soul Summit became a cult celebration of the neighborhood’s vibrant diversity and the legacy of DJing. Fans come from around the world to take part in this Sunday ritual of dancing, drumming, dressing up, and spirituality. The party has traveled the world, bringing together followers from every generation and background — but it remains rooted in Fort Greene’s creative community and African-American culture.
This video was edited by me, Khyriel Palmer. I served as the host, co-producer, and editor of the Brooklyn USA podcast until November 2023, the original audio platform exploring Brooklyn’s culture and stories.
